The Pencil by Allan Ahlberg and Bruce Ingham 5-7

VIEW IN EDSHED

One day a little pencil shivers, quivers, springs to life and begins to draw. He draws a boy called Banjo, a cheeky dog called Bruce and a slinky cat named Mildred. Hot and bothered after a day of chasing and running around, Banjo and his friends ask the pencil to draw them some food. But there’s a problem: the food is black and white! So the pencil creates Kitty, an excitable paintbrush. Everyone is happy, until the pencils draws a rubber….

A madcap, humorous, playful story full of tension and excitement. On the surface, the story is a simple, joyous celebration of creativity, in all its absurdity. However, it also deals with themes of responsibility and dealing with consequences. This fresh, clever story is perfect for children of all ages!
