The Conquerors by David McKee 5-7

VIEW IN EDSHED

This is a thought provoking parable about domination, war and pacifism.

One day the General sends his army to defeat and conquer a tiny little country. They are shocked to discover this country has no army – instead the soldiers are greeted with warmth and acceptance. They are welcomed into the homes of the town folk and soon become part of the fabric of the community, absorbing their traditions, stories and songs.

There is a wonderful message inthis book about unconventional ways to deal with war and this message of warmth and kindm=ness shines through.

The story is pitched perfectly and delivers a heartfelt message of peace and hope, ideal for children in years 1 and 2.
